Provide the DC system voltage, continuous and momentary loads, required autonomy, end-of-discharge voltage, operating temperature, available installation space, maintenance conditions, redundancy requirements and project location.

Q. What determines the service life of a stationary battery?
Service life is influenced by battery design, operating temperature, float voltage, discharge frequency, depth of discharge, charging conditions and maintenance quality. Published design life applies under specified conditions and is not the same as a guaranteed replacement interval.

Q. How is a substation battery system sized?
Sizing should account for system voltage, continuous loads, intermittent loads, momentary loads, required autonomy, minimum equipment voltage, ambient temperature, battery aging and design margins. The complete load sequence should be evaluated rather than using total capacity alone.

Q. What is the difference between OPzV and OPzS batteries?
Both use tubular positive plates and are designed for stationary applications. OPzV is a sealed, valve-regulated gel battery that does not require routine watering. OPzS is a flooded battery that requires planned inspection and maintenance but remains a proven option for large utility battery systems.

There is no single best technology for every installation. AGM batteries offer sealed, straightforward standby power; gel batteries support reduced-maintenance applications; OPzV batteries combine tubular plates with sealed gel construction; and OPzS batteries provide a serviceable flooded solution for large stationary systems.
